When I was a very young child my Dad rented a small corner office in a business complex where he started his private Chiropractic Practice. Next door to the left was a Psychic. As the child of a single parent much of my early days after school were spent playing pretend in that complex and making friends with the hairstylists, the insurance agents, the massage therapists, anyone who’d let me get out of my dad’s hair.

There was always a pull to the Psychic next door, but the blacked out windows and neon red ‘Tarot Cards’ sign felt intimidating so I never popped in. I didn’t really see many people frequent the space which made it all the more alluring in true 5-6 year old Aries Rising Fashion. One day I walked inside to say hello.

My memory is spotty as it was decades ago, but after the usual formalities the tall curly haired woman asked if I wanted a reading of my own. I said yes and she prompted me to ask for my dad’s permission. I ran next door and interrupted his appointment to which I was scolded, but he begrudgingly said yes.

The contents of my personal reading have long left me. I remember a red table cloth and choosing three cards from a deck. She read my fortune and I left afterwards without knowing I had knocked on the door of a personal deep seated passion and purpose of this lifetime. I didn’t have another reading till over a decade later.

In my current work I’ve come to understand that unsettled and challenging times tend to sway even the firmest of skeptics towards seeking out Psychic services. In my teen years I was a pretty harsh skeptic but I was also going through intense pain after loosing a parent, traumatic events, failing school, and failed relationships. My years long dark night had me practically bed bound by depression, anxiety, addictions, and grief.

In my bed I found tarot readings on YouTube. The Psychics I found gave me clarity and hope that I hadn’t felt for a long time. Practicing my intuition, finding community in the online tarot space, and self reflecting with a cat tarot deck gifted to me by a friend is what I largely credit for getting me through such hard times.
